The EDP cell of the Michael Institute of Management, Madurai, organised an interactive session on April 16 where S. Sampath from Ruby Foods Pvt. Ltd spoke on ‘Prospects of Food Products in India.”

In his interaction with the students, Mr. Sampath narrated the opportunities to be utilised and threats to be tackled to be a successful entrepreneur. He also touched upon understanding customer needs, identification of product gap, product selection, marketing, government support and global competition.

R. Bernadshaw, Director, Michael Institute of Management, delivered the presidential address.

Short film released

A short film made by Students of Latha Mathavan Polytechnic College titled ‘Nammalala Dhan’ was released in the college recently. The film, based on agriculture and its relevance, was made by Manikandan, Maniraj, Karthikeyan and Raja.

The short film was released by Founder and Chairman of the college K. Mathavan.

Cadets felicitated

The 40th NCC Company Day, felicitation function for the 2015 college Republic Day (Delhi) cadets and candidates who had been given a rank promotion, were held at the M.S.S. Wakf Board College on April 13.

S. Abdul Rahim presided and spoke on the brave participation of girl cadets in the Republic Day parade at Delhi and appreciated the encouragement extended to them from their parents, NCC officer Major A. Syed Abdul Rahiman Ibrahim and the team of 7 (TN) Battalion officers under the guidance of Col. K.N. Prasad, the Officer Commanding.

Cultural programmes depicting the importance of national integration, the hazards of cell-phones, and the preservation of trees for the effective rainfall and for the prevention of depletion in ozone layer were enacted by the cadets.

Blood donated

A blood donation camp was organised at Pandian Saraswathi Yadav Engineering College, Arasanoor, by students from the National Service Scheme, Red Ribbon Club, Rotary Club of Madurai (85234) and the Sivaganga Government Medical College on April 17.

College Managing Director S.P. Varadharajan presided and Principal V. Dharmalingam welcomed the gathering. Sivaganga Government Medical College, Medical Officer of Blood Bank, Vimala Devi Vithiya inaugurated the camp. A total of 61 units of blood were donated by the college faculty and students.

Training programme

The Zoology Department of Yadava College organised a ‘Hands on training in vermicomposting’ by K. Sivasamy, Vermicomposting Expert at Sakthi Vermiary, Vadipatti, on April 10.

Mr. Sivasamy explained the species and raw materials used in the preparation of vermicompost and its importance in agriculture.

P. Alagesan, Associate Professor of Zoology, stressed the objectives of the training and Principal S. Dhanasekaran presided over the meeting.

Team wins prize

The team from Arasan Ganesan Polytechnic College, Sivakasi, won the second prize in the national level e-Yantra Robotics Teacher competition which was conducted by Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay, on April 10.

The team comprising of faculty members B. Krishna Kumar, J. Francis Xavier Thenraj, M. Subburaj and L. Murugesan participated under the theme of ‘Valet parking robot’.

Model training camp

A model training camp for scouts and guides was inaugurated on April 20 at Sivakasi Nadars Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Madurai.

It was a pre-training camp for the forthcoming Rajyapuraskar and Rastrapathi Award examinations. Camp leader R.M. Santhanam welcomed the gathering and V. Ram Sundra Sekar, school correspondent, felicitated the gathering.

Principal P. Regan advised the students to make use of the camp and use the opportunity to become good citizens of the country.
