The management of Pachaiyappa’s and Presidency colleges have introduced many initiatives to put an end to student violence on and off campus.

A week ahead of the college opening, police and college authorities held three meetings with parents whose wards are studying in the college. “We are going to follow all guidelines issued by the government strictly such as dress code, time, discipline and other aspects,” said N. Shettu, principal of Pachaiyappa’s College.

The college administration has asked students to come to the college on time. Students who do not have proper identity cards will not be allowed inside. A team of professors, on a rotation basis, will be deployed to check students who enter the college premises and those who come late.

Counsellors will be appointed for constant monitoring of students. Any erring student will be counselled and steps will be taken to reform them. “In the past, we have taken disciplinary action against erring students. We have issued transfer certificate to them. We wish to clarify that it is not our intention to penalise them. We just want to provide good education to them in a better environment,” Mr. Shettu said.
