Reiterating her government's commitment to providing an enabling environment conducive to the growth of the corporate sector, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Wednesday said the government would soon announce industry-specific policies.
The policies would be for the automobile and auto components industry, biotechnology, aerospace industry and renewable energy with special focus on solar power generation, she said after inaugurating the truck manufacturing unit of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt Ltd in Oragadam.
A number of innovative policy measures were being initiated to achieve the objectives set out in ‘Vision Tamil Nadu 2023,' the Chief Minister said. “My government is currently finalising a set of policy reforms that will translate my vision into reality. The New Industrial Policy 2012 will accelerate the pace of growth of the manufacturing sector to 14 per cent,” she added.
Stating that her goal was to make Tamil Nadu numero uno in all spheres of development, Ms. Jayalalithaa said that some critics raised doubt whether it was possible. “Leaders make things possible. Exceptional leaders make them inevitable. When people doubt me, I make them believe with my success. Success is the best revenge,” she said.
Inviting investors to be partners in realising the vision, the Chief Minister said the government was aware of the many challenges that industry faced such as the infrastructure deficit.
“We are doing everything possible to overcome these infrastructural challenges,” she said, detailing the measures to provide world class roads and to ensure long term energy security.

Chennai, she added, was now emerging as one of the top 10 global automobile manufacturing centres.
It would have installed capacity to produce 1.3 million cars and about 3.6 lakh commercial vehicles.
“This translates to an output of three cars every minute and one commercial vehicle every 75 seconds, Ms. Jayalalithaa said, adding that the objective was to make Chennai the global leader in automobile and components manufacturing.
Congratulating the management of Daimler on establishing the “impressive manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu” and assuring it of her government's support and cooperation, the Chief Minister hoped that the company's success would enthuse many German firms to invest in the State.
The Industries Minister, P. Thangamani, and the Chief Secretary, Debendranath Sarangi, were among those who participated in the function.
