S. Vijayadharani, MLA (Vilavancode), has urged the government to carry out maintenance works on Kaliyakkavilai-Kanyakumari stretch of National Highway (NH-47) as the road was full of potholes. The bad condition of the road was leading to back-breaking ride for motorists, even for two-wheeler riders.

Speaking to The Hindu , the MLA said that the sorry state of road had already been brought to the notice of the officials since it resulted in frequent traffic snarls. As demanded by her, the Department of National Highways had agreed to allot adequate fund to carry out maintenance works and tenders for the same would be floated soon.

Ms. Vijayadharani also urged the authorities to carry out development works on Kallukatti and Chankai roads by widening and strengthening them so that these roads could serve as bypasses to the busy NH 49 and ease congestion at Marthandam. The officials had assured her that these suggestions would be looked into.

She also demanded the government to take immediate step to widen the Channelkarai road to Arukani on the Kuzhithurai-Alancholai State highway, Kaliyal to Netta road on the Aralvoimozhi-Nedumancadu road, Manjalu to Market road, Mukkuttukal to Keezhmancode road, Arumanai to Panachamoodu road, Kadayalumoodu to Pechipparai road, Thiruthuvapuram road to Maruthancode-Kazhuvanthittai road and Garamvilai-Thikkuruchi-Chitharal road.
