Importance of small millets as alternative crop stressed

Importance of small millets as alternative crop for cereals was stressed at an awareness-cum-training programme near here recently.

The programme meant for the tribal farmers and water user association members was organised by the Seed Centre, and Centre of Excellence in Millets (CEM), Athiyandal, TNAU. About 120 farmers from Jamunamarathur, Polur and Kalasapakkam blocks and water user association members from Middle Pennaiyar Basin region were given training on production of quality seeds in millets.

CO (Te) 7 variety of thinai (foxtail millet) seeds were distributed .
