R. Nanthagopal, Vellore Collector, inaugurated a training programme in ready-made garments making to 30 selected women under the Special Livelihood Scheme for Women-Headed Families at the Indian Bank Self-Employment Training Institute (INDSETI) at Gandhinagar here on Friday.
The scheme envisages the formation of special livelihood groups with the heads of women-headed families in the rural and urban areas as members (with a minimum of five members in each group), provision of short term self-employment skill training for one to three months, skill training with employment for a period of three to 12 months to women in the 18-45 age group, grant of loans with interest subsidy to the beneficiaries for economic activities, skill training with guaranteed employment in organisations and loan with interest subsidy and self-employment skill development training to individuals or clusters.
The Collector said that it has been targeted to link all those interested poor beneficiaries in the women-headed families in the scheme within five years from 2015-16.
Under the scheme, residential and non-residential training would be given for periods ranging from one to 12 months. Grants of up to Rs. 1 lakh would be provided under the scheme to livelihood organisations based on their need.
Lokanayaki, Project Officer, Women’s Development Project, Vellore, Nagarjuna, Zonal Manager, Indian Bank, Vellore, Mahendran, Lead Bank Manager, Indian Bank and Ramesh, General Manager, District Industries Centre participated in the inaugural function.
