Income Tax officials conducted searches at the offices of the Seyad Group of Companies on Wednesday following information on reported tax evasion.
Apart from the ‘House of Seyad,’ the group’s administrative office on North Bypass Road in Tirunelveli, the officials searched for tax evasion evidence at the group’s establishments at Sindhupoondurai, Moontradaippu, East Vallanaadu and Karumpuliyooththu and a few houses at Maharaja Nagar in Palayamkottai.
Besides manufacturing Seyadu Beedi, the group runs cotton mills and garment units in the district, which also came under the IT officials’ scanner. According to I-T deparment sources, simultaneous searches were conducted in Madurai and places where the company has business interest and runs agencies.
