History-sheeter murdered

A history-sheeter was murdered by an armed gang at Maaraanthai near here on Wednesday night due to prior enmity.

Police said T. Murugan alias ‘Suruttai’ Murugan (55) of Maaraanthai, a history-sheeter, was hacked by a 5-member armed gang near a farm close to the village on Wednesday night. He died on the spot.

Police from Seethaparpanallur station rushed to the spot and sent the body to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

During investigation, police found that Murugan had been murdered due to previous enmity. As Murugan, who was facing murder and attempt to murder cases, had allegedly developed an illicit affair with a married woman from the same area and hence the lady’s relatives might have exterminated him, the police suspect.
