A history-sheeter, who was once Hindu Munnani’s Sankarankovil town secretary, was found murdered near his house on Saturday morning.

Police said D. Jeeva alias Jeevaraj (37) of Pothigai Nagar in Sankarankovil, who had been detained under the Goondas Act twice and facing several cases, was found murdered near his house around 5.30 a.m. on Saturday. A deep gash in the throat might have caused the death of Jeeva, who re-entered the Hindu Munnani a few months ago after being removed from the post of Sankarankovil town secretary and subsequently expelled from the outfit owing to his alleged unlawful activities.

Police suspect that the property disputes he had with a few people from Sankarankovil and other enmity he had earned in the past may have been the cause for his murder.

Superintendent of Police K.S. Narenthiran Nair and senior police officials visited the spot and additional police personnel have been deployed across Sankarankovil following the murder.
