History sheeter beheaded in broad daylight

In a gruesome incident, a notorious history sheeter was beheaded in broad daylight by a rival gang at the Municipality Park here on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Patharselvam (35), of Virattikuppam in Villupuram.

One of the gang members walked on the Villupuram-Puducherry Road carrying the severed head and a blood stained sickle in full public view and surrendered before the Villupuram town police.

Police sources said the murder occurred at around 7.30 a.m.Hacked in park

Patharselvam was playing badminton with his friends at the municipality park when a gang led by Arivu alias Arivalagan of Kizhperumbakkam hacked him to death and severed his head. People ran helter skelter soon after the incident.

Patharselvam had at least 10 cases including charges of murder and attempt to murder in various police stations in Villupuram.

A senior police official said the murder was an outcome of a long drawn enmity between Patharselvam and Arivalagan.

Murder accused

Patharselvam was one of the main accused in the murder of Arivalagan’s elder brother Siva in the year 2004.

Police believe the murder was in retaliation for the killing of Siva.

A case has been registered and a search has been launched to nab a those suspected to be involved in the crime.

Murder was an outcome of a long drawn enmity between the victim, Patharselvam and Arivalagan.
