Police have arrested Hindu Munnani activists when they attempted to take out a ‘Padayatra’ to the residence of AIADMK MP A Anwar Raja, demanding his resignation for acting against the provisions of Indian constitution.

Led by Hindu Munnani district president Prabakar, 12 activists assembled at the entrance of the Collectorate to take out the ‘Padayatra’ when a police team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police S. Sarvesh Raj arrested them. They were detained in a marriage hall before being released in the evening.

They proposed to hand over a petition to the MP, demanding his resignation for marrying third time, in pursuant to the Muslim Personal Law after taking oath to protect the Indian constitution while assuming office as Member of Parliament.

They carried a poster, which questioned the logic behind the MP’s third marriage following the Muslim personal law when he gave an undertaking to abide by the Indian constitution, while taking oath as Member of Parliament. The MP, a widower, who represented Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha constituency, recently married Sameera Sulthana (50), a north Indian widow, at a simple function in the presence of family members.
