Hectic parleys ahead of RS nomination deadline

June 17, 2013 01:31 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:41 pm IST - CHENNAI:

As filing of nomination for Rajya Sabha polls ends on Monday, political parties in the State have started hectic parleys seeking support from parties which are not contesting the elections.

Even as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) continues to make efforts to get support from Congress, its erstwhile ally that has five members in the Assembly, there are reports in Tamil electronic media that the Congress leadership is inclined to support Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) led by actor Vijayakant.

On Sunday, Mr. Vijayakant held discussion with his senior colleagues. But, as of now, the party has not yet announced its candidate.

In the meantime, Communist Party of India (CPI) named D. Raja as its candidate.

CPI plea

CPI State secretary D. Pandian made an open appeal to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, requesting her to take appropriate steps to ensure the victory of his party candidate.
