The relief obtained by J. Guru alias Gurunathan, a PMK MLA, when the Centre revoked two orders detaining him under the National Security Act (NSA), has proved to be short-lived.
On Thursday, the Madras High Court on allowed a petition by the State government challenging the Centre’s action and set aside the revocation.
A Division Bench, comprising Justices S. Rajeswaran and A. Arumughaswamy, passed the order on a writ petition by the Kancheepuram District Collector. Originally, the Jeyankondam MLA was detained under the NSA on May 10 this year. It was revoked by the Centre. For the second time he was detained under the Act on July 3 based on the Kancheepuram Collector’s order. On August 22, the Centre revoked the detention which was challenged by the Collector in a writ petition. The legislator was detained under the preventive law for the third time on August 23.
Allowing the petition, the Bench said the Central government had not passed a reasoning order of revocation. It was not a speaking order.
