The Madras High Court on Thursday restrained the Tamil Film Producers Council from taking a final decision on a proposal to amend its bye-laws and bring in a rule that only those who had produced and released at least three movies would be permitted to get enrolled in the association and exercise the right to vote in the elections to the council.
Justice C.V. Karthikeyan ordered that the council’s annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled to be held on Sunday could discuss the issue of amending the bye-laws but the result of such discussion should not be declared without the permission of the court.

Mr. Justice Karthikeyan also appointed former High Court judge R.S. Ramanathan as an observer for the AGM.
The orders were passed on a civil suit filed by three film producers, including R. Kishore Kumar, to restrain the council from amending its bye-laws.
