August 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 12:28 pm IST - NAGERCOIL:

The Marthandam police registered a case of unnatural death under Section 174 Cr.P.C. soon after Sasi Perumal, who protested the functioning of an IMFL shop near a school and a church at Unnamalaikkadai, died on Friday.

The First Information Report stated that Sasi Perumal had hanged himself before the fire and rescue service personnel could rescue him from the mobile phone tower.

G. Chellamani, General Manager, Tasmac, said that she reached the spot around 9 a.m. and pacified the agitators by promising to shift the shop within a month. “As they continued with their protest, we promised in writing to shift the shop within seven days,” she said.

Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan said that residents also objected to an alternative site identified for the Tasmac shop in the same area.
