There has been a growing awareness among the youth of Karaikal who had been duped by overseas job racketeers in the recent past.

The awareness has got to an enhanced level, thanks to the weekly grievance day system introduced through video conferencing, by Lt. Governor of Puducherry, Kiran Bedi, last month.

A number of persons have been complaining, through video conferencing, about the job racket in the town. Quickly acting on complaints by youth, the Lt. Governor directed the Senior Superintendent of Police V.J. Chandran, to take immediate action and follow-up on the cases.

A group of youth said that the job racketeers had duped them. They staged a demonstration in front of the Collector’s Office, seeking help for getting refund of their money. “We remained silent all these days without staging any protest. But, the video conferencing had instilled confidence in us,” said one of the youth.

They had been duped through interpersonal communication.

Most of them said that they could not disclose the matter through public protest, as they were more ashamed of disclosing their pitiable condition.

The Senior Superintendent of Police said that all precautionary measures have been taken against job racketeers.

After the video conferencing, the police department had convened a meeting of the overseas travel agents and advised them to obtain license from the Karaikal municipality. Any bogus job racketing was closely monitored in the district.
