Engineering students through their creative thoughts and innovation should play an active role in nation building and make the country a superpower, said P. Pandiyarajan, Dean, Anbil Dharmalingam Agricultural College and Research Institute, in his Graduation Day address at Tiruchi Engineering College. S. Subramaniam, secretary of the college, Sujatha Subramaniam, chairperson, R.M. Ramachandran, Principal, and M. Anusuya, Vice-Principal, were present.

Faculty Development Programme

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Nehru Memorial College organised a Faculty Development Programme on “Revisiting the Examination System in the Current Scenario” for its staff members. R. Thirumurugan, Controller of Examinations (in-charge), Bharathidasan University, in his inaugural address, presented a comprehensive view of the status of education in India and abroad. He highlighted the objectives of the 12th Five Year Plan in the higher education with respect to promoting excellence, equal access to education and increasing the gross enrolment ratio. K. Devarajan, former Director of School Education, spoke on “Technology enabled Examination System.” He presented examples of difficulties encountered in processing the data, central valuation, entry of marks and declaration of results. He explained the benefits of automation in addressing the issues. He interacted with the staff members and explained how to overcome practical difficulties effectively. T. Students get degrees

S. Sundar Manoharan, Vice Chancellor, Karunya University, advised students to be courageous, confident and positive to succeed in life in his Graduation Day address at Mount Zion College of Engineering and Technology, Pudukottai. Four hundred and twenty three graduates and 63 post graduates students received their B.E degrees and 63 post-graduates received their degrees. Kyung-Tae Kim, Professor, Department of Information and Communication Engineering , Hannam University, South Korea, Jayabarathan Chellaiah, Chairman, Mount Zion Educational Institutions, Florence Jayabarathan, Co- Chairperson, Jayson. K Jayabarathan, Director, P. Balamurgan, Principal, spoke.

Sports alumni day

Around 120 students of Bishop Heber College, who excelled in sports during 2015-16, were honoured at the sports achievers felicitation and sports alumni day, organised by the Department of Physical Education of the college. C. Sundara Raman, president, Cauvery Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Cauvery Global School, felicitated the students in the presence of D. Paul Dhayabaran, Principal, and L.C. John, Head, Department of Physical Education.

Convocation

Students should set up goals of their future career even while they undergo undergraduate or post-graduate courses in colleges, said M. Sivakumar, Chief Executive of ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu. Delivering the convocation address of the E.G.S.Pillay Engineering College in Nagapattinam, he said that the three or five academic years a student spent on a college formed the foundation for a youth to decide on the future career. A strong decision would benefit them even when they turn senior citizens. S. Parameswaran, secretary and S. Ramabalan, Principal, were present. In all 390 undergraduate and 216 post-graduate students got their degree certificates.

Technical workshop

A two-day technical workshop on “Evolution of 5G and IoT through Cognitive Radio Networks” was organised by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi. Faculty members from various engineering colleges of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala participated. B. Venkataramani of National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, Veeramanikandan Raju of Texas Instruments, Avinash Hachappa of Keysight Technologies, T. Arivoli of Vickram College of Engineering, M.D. Selvaraj of IIITD, and S.J. Thiruvengadam of Thiagarajar College of Engineering, spoke. Technology demonstration sessions by EdGate Technologies, Bangalore and the Cognitive Radio Research Group, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, was also formed part of the event funded by the Department of Science and Technology.
