Govt. slammed for not protecting industries

Communist Party of India (Marxist) has flayed the State government for not taking steps to generate new employment opportunities and protecting the existing industries.

The party’s Member of Parliament T.K. Rangarajan told reporters on Friday that there were no new employment opportunities in the State and the existing industries were also affected.

“The government is not worried about industrial growth nor is it protecting the industries. Sugar mills in the State have come to a position where it has not paid cane growers. The State and Central government should take measures to protect the mills,” he said.

Ancillary industries around Chennai and Tiruchy are also affected. “These industries provide employment to several persons. Such jobs are also shrinking now,” he added. He urged the Central government to take steps to stop the illegal entry of China-made crackers into the country as it was affecting the cracker industries here.

He explained that the Left parties have joined hands with parties such as MDMK to fight against the anti-people policies of the State and Central governments.

“We are taking up issues to protect the welfare of the people and elections are definitely not the agenda at this point of time,” he said.

Protect rivers

He urged the State government to take measures to protect the rivers in the State. Pointing out to the illegal sand mining in Palar, Cauvery and Thamirabharani, he said in future, groundwater will be affected to a large extent.

“The remaining rivers in the State should not become Cooum. The Chief Minister had raised the need to curb sand mining during the election campaign but has not taken action,” he noted.
