A few Government schools in the district celebrated the National Science Day with much fanfare by organising science exhibitions and science model demonstrations.

The highlight of the day-long science exhibition held at the Panchayat Union Middle School in Kandapatti village near here was the initiative by the students to draw the attention of students and their parents on the importance of traditional food items made of millets.

The students explained the importance of millets and how the food items prepared using them would prove nutritious. They also displayed the biscuits made of millets at the expo.

The students had also displayed models and charts explaining the need for protecting the forest wealth; natural resources; need for strict adherence to road rules and judicious use of available drinking water.

The models of various satellites provided added attraction to the exhibition.

The signals to guide vehicle users on ghat roads; equipment warning the intrusion of wild animals into villages abutting the reserve forests, and production of power from different sources, were also displayed by the students.

Subalakshmi, headmistress of the school, commended the students for evincing keen interest in science and related subjects.

In a similar exhibition held at the Panchayat Union Middle School in Kannantheri village near Sankagiri, the students displayed various scientific models.

R. Venkatesh, convener of the Real Time Foundation, organised a robotic demonstration on the occasion. K. Chandrasekar, headmaster of the school, and Kala Kuppusamy, president of the school management committee, felicitated the students.
