Pattali Makkal Katchi leader S. Ramadoss on Sunday urged the government to bring an end to the ongoing strike of the workers of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) by fulfilling their demands instead of making attempts to break the strike.
In a statement here, he described as unjustifiable the stand of the NLC management that it would release arrears only from January 2010, since the recommendation of the Sixth Pay Commission was implemented on November 26, 2008.
Pointing out that it would cost only Rs.80 crore to pay the arrears, Dr. Ramadoss said the amount was nothing for a public sector undertaking which was making a profit of Rs.1,200 crore a year.
“All sections of society are supporting the strike. If allowed to continue, the strike will end up affecting the electricity generation in the State. If officials are not able to break the stalemate, Union Ministers and Tamil Nadu Ministers should intervene and find a solution,” he added.
