A few days after the rape of two minors of a children’s home at Pollachi, the Tamil Nadu government has asked the district administrations to send a report on the status of private homes so that “remedial measures” could be taken against those that operated without registration.
District Social Welfare Officer I. Poongothai told The Hindu on Tuesday that officials were directed to list the existing homes in their district. The report would be sent immediately to the government. It would have the total number of private and government homes, the year of their establishment and details of registration and beneficiaries.
She said fresh guidelines were framed for enhancing security to children of private homes, and they would be circulated among all homes. The Child Protection Committee was asked to step up vigil on private homes.
Report in 10 daysMeanwhile, the committee, constituted by the district administration to inspect private homes, has been asked to submit its report within 10 days.
