Ganja seized

The city police have arrested a gang of four persons from Odisha and another person for allegedly illegally transporting ganja in an auto with intent to distribute it in the city.

According to the police, constable Chitra and a police driver were on duty near the Vivekanandar Illam on the Marina. At 2.45 a.m., they intercepted an auto driven by Udayakumar, which had four passengers in it. As soon as the vehicle was stopped, the driver and the passengers abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee.

Police personnel who were on duty nabbed all the five persons.

The police identified four of them as Krom, 21, Shrayan Naik, 27, Ajay, 27, and Kunna, 30, from Odisha. They had engaged the autorickshaw at the Central station to drop them at Sholinganallur. The police seized 15 kg of ganja from them.

On Friday, the North Beach police arrested two persons with contraband weighing 7.5 kg at their hideout on Linghi Chetti Street. Following a tip-off, a police team raided a house and nabbed Mohammed Yosuf, 22, and Ahamed Musthafa, 20, of Mannady. The prime accused, Al Amin, escaped.

The Selaiyur police have arrested Kaliammal, 55, and seized 100 gm of ganja from her. On Friday, the Pallavaram police arrested Thillai Natrajan who had 400 gm of ganja in packets for selling them at Ullagaram.
