Fishermen allege attacks

Four fishermen from Vellapallam alleged attacks by Sri Lankan Navy off Vedaranyam past midnight of Wednesday. They were fishing South East off Kodiakkarai when the four were intercepted by a Sri Lankan Naval boat. According to them, they were asked to jump into the waters. The Naval personnel ransacked the boat and damaged the nets.

In another incident, four fishermen from Vaanavanmahadevi claimed their boat too was attacked by Sri Lankan Navy on the stretch where the first incident occurred. The injured fishermen have been admitted to the Government Hospital.
