Four students arrested

January 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Valliyoor police have arrested four polytechnic college students, all in their teens, as they allegedly attacked a few of their classmates belonging to a different caste.

The police said two groups of students from Valliyoor, all studying in a private polytechnic college at Radhapuram, used to clash for petty reasons as they belong to different castes.

Trouble erupted again on Friday after a group of students wrote the name of their community leader on the desk in their classroom with a geometrical instrument.

When two students from the other group opposed to it, they were attacked by those who inscribed the name. Subsequently, Radhapuram police registered a case in this connection based on the complaint lodged by the victims.

Agitated over this, one of the students, who allegedly attacked the students, also filed a complaint with Radhapuram police and another First Information Report was registered against the victims.

Against this backdrop, one of the groups involved in the clash, launched an attack on the other group of students when they were returning home from the polytechnic college on Friday. The victims filed separate complaints with Valliyoor police, who registered cases against five students.

Subsequently, four of them were arrested on Saturday and the hunt is on to nab four more.
