Four killed as car overturns

Four persons of a family were killed and three others injured when the car they were travelling in overturned at Renganathapuram village in Vedasandur block in the district on Wednesday evening.

The deceased were Udayakumar (55), his wife Madhu Lakshmi (48), their relative Rathinam (60) and a one-and-a-half-year-old girl, Lavanya, of Vangalpalayam in Karur district.

Two persons were killed on the spot and one succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. The three bodies were shifted to Vedasandur GH.

The baby died at Dindigul Government Hospital.

The three seriously injured – S. Vijaya Kumar (37) and Manoj Kumar (25) of Vangalpalayam and a two-year-old boy Adharsh – were rushed to Dindigul GH. Their condition was very critical, the doctors said.

Later, they were referred to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.

After preliminary investigation, police said the victims were returning to Karur from Tiruchendur after a pilgrimage. The car skidded from four-lane National Highway 7, rolled several times and fell into a gorge. The police suspected that speeding was the reason for the accident.
