Four persons have been arrested for setting up spiral iron wire trap in the reserve forest for catching animals. They were fined Rs.25,000 each and released.
According to the Forest Department sources, a team of officials led by Odugathur Range Officer R. Muralidaran that went on raid in Karuthamalai Reserve Forest found an iron spiral trap set up for catching animals.
They combed the area and caught four persons who have allegedly set up the trap and arrested them on Tuesday. They were identified to be Tirumal (41) and Tamilarasan (37) of Athikuppam village, Mani (40) and Ramalingam (60) of Mulluvadi tribal village located in Arasambattu Reserve Forest.
Each of them were fined Rs.25,000 and released on Thursday.
Country-made guns seized
In another incident, Nirmal Kumar, a forester attached to Odugathur range went to Mulluvadi village on raid and found a villager hiding two illegal country-made guns.
The villager Sankar (37) was arrested and guns were seized.
Handed over
Both the guns and the accused were handed over to Jamunamarathur police station.
