Former Deputy Mayor files nomination in Tirupur

S. Gunasekaran and K.Radhakrishnan, both of AIADMK who recently resigned the posts of Tirupur Corporation Deputy Mayor and Arasu Cable TV Corporation chairman, respectively, were among the 53 persons who filed nomination papers in the district on Thursday.

While Mr. Gunasekaran filed his nomination in Tirupur South Assembly constituency, Mr. Radhakrishnan submitted his papers in Udumalpet constituency.

The other prominent persons who filed nominations on the day were K. Ponnumsamy, the sitting MLA who is seeking re-election in Dharapuram constituency, and Mansoor Hussain Syed, State president of Pattali Makkal Katchi’s minority wing, who filed his nomination for Tirupur South Assembly constituency.

Official sources said 53 persons filed a total of 87 nomination papers on the day.

Of the 53 persons, a maximum of eight persons filed the nominations in Tirupur South, Avinashi and Kangayam constituencies.

Seven persons each filed nominations at Tirupur North, Palladam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies.

At Udumalpet and Madathukulam constituencies, four persons each submitted their nomination papers.

With this, a total of 110 persons had filed the nomination papers across the eight Assembly constituencies in the district till now.
