As filing of nominations for the May 16 Assembly polls is to commence this week, Collector M. Karunakaran convened a meeting of officials and representatives of political parties to explain them the norms to be followed during the exercise.

Addressing the meeting, Dr. Karunakaran said that filing of nominations would commence at 11 a.m. on Friday (April 22) at Tirunelveli Corporation (for Palayamkottai constituency), Tirunelveli taluk office (Tirunelveli constituency), Office of Sub-Collector, Cheranmahadevi (Ambasamudram constituency) and the taluk offices at Tenkasi, Kadayanallur, Sankarankovil, Nangnueri, Radhapuram and Alangulam for the respective constituencies. The filing of nominations would go on till 3 p.m.

For Vasudevanallur segment, the nomination should be filed at Sivagiri taluk office.

Four sets

Candidates can file four sets of nominations and all columns in the nomination papers should be filled up with correct information. ‘No due certificate’ should be attached with the nomination papers.

“Along with the candidate, only four four-wheelers will be allowed to enter the premises of the office of the respective Returning Officer. No campaigning or sloganeering will be allowed on the premises during the filing,” Dr. Karunakaran said.

Women agents

He also said that each Assembly segment would have an ‘all-women booth’ and hence the political parties should appoint only women agents for these booths. “Candidates contesting the election should submit the list of names of booth agents to the Returning Officers concerned immediately,” the Collector said.

District Revenue Officer M.G. Kulandaivel, Cheranmahadevi Sub-Collector V. Vishnu, Assistant Collector (Training) K.P. Karthikeyan, Corporation Commissioner S. Sivasubramanian, Revenue Divisional Officers P. Fermi Vidhya of Tirunelveli and Venkatesh of Tenkasi, Returning Officers of all the 10 constituencies and representatives of recognised political parties participated in the meeting.
