Fishes found dead

November 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - Tuticorin:

Several dead fishes were found scattered along Tharuvaikulam seashore on Wednesday. The effluents from a fish mill plant that were let into the sea could have caused the death of fishes, sources said.

Nearly, 300 kilograms of fishes were found dead along a stretch of half a kilometre. Two years ago, a large number of fishes were found dead here.

Sources said that normally when such effluents containing high organic load beyond the sustainable level were allowed into the sea, fishes would suffer from lack of oxygen, which could lead to fatalities. But, now the cause of death was yet to be ascertained, they added.
