Fishermen rescued

Three fishermen who were stranded mid-sea after their boat had developed a snag were rescued by the Coastal Security Group personnel on Wednesday.

J. Vijayakumar (35), his brother J. Alex (28) and D. David (25) ventured into sea from Jagadapattinam on Tuesday morning.

They immediately alerted the Coastal Security Group personnel. Led by Maruthu, Sub-Inspector of Police, the personnel conducted an intensive search mid-sea and located the fishermen at 10 nautical miles off Jagadapattinam and rescued them. They also towed away the damaged boat and brought it to the shores.

Demonstration

Members of the Pudukottai branch of the Tamil Nadu State Horticulture Farm Permanent Employees Association staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate in support of their five-point charter of demands.

P. Samidurai, district organiser and C. Govindasamy, district secretary of the Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association, spoke.
