A stranded country fishing boat, which left Tuticorin with a crew of six fishermen onboard, was rescued by the Indian Coast Guard personnel in Tuticorin station on Saturday.
The fishermen were brought back safely to the shore.
Thanks to the lifesaving effort of the Coast Guard personnel.
The boat went adrift 25 nautical miles south of Manapad coast, owing to the engine failure.
P. Santhya Pacheik, owner, said timely efforts of the coast guard personnel saved the lives of the fishermen. Mr. Pacheik sought help at 2.30 p.m. on Friday.
Immediate steps
When contacted, Commandant S.E.D. Anand Kumar, ICG, Tuticorin Station, told The Hindu that the coast guard ship Naikidevi sailed immediately in search of the boat.
The boat was located at 11 p.m. on March 1 30 miles east off Kanyakumari coast.
The boat with the crew was handed over safely to the boat owner here on Saturday, the Commandant said.
