Fees based on data furnished by schools, says Minister

May 15, 2010 12:43 am | Updated November 28, 2021 09:00 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The State government will not bow to the threats of private school managements over the school fee structure issue, School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu told the Assembly on Friday.

Explaining the scheme of school fee structure, Mr. Thangam Thennarasu said the Private Schools Fee Determination Committee, headed by K. Govindarajan, had fixed the fee on the basis of data furnished by the educational institutions on matters concerning salaries and other overheads.

There was no across-the-board fee. If any school management had a genuine grievance, it was free to approach the committee for a review. This was provided in the law enacted by the government, Mr. Thennarasu said, responding to an issue raised by T. Velmurugan (Pattali Makkal Katchi).
