Protest against move to take over land without farmers’ consent

March 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - THANJAVUR:

Farmers from nine districts in the State have planned to assemble in Thanjavur on Monday next to take a pledge against allowing land to be taken without their consent as a mark of protest against the Land Acquisition Bill which the Left-leaning farmers’ bodies describe as “unfair and anti-farmer.”

Jointly addressing the media, the CPI (M) Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association State general secretary, P.Shanmugham, and the CPI's Tamilaga Vivasyigal Sangam State general secretary, V.Duraimanikkam, slammed the AIADMK and its general secretary Jayalalithaa for supporting the amendments and the Bill. They called upon the former Chief Minister not to sacrifice the interest of the delta farmers in the altar of personal interests.
