Farmers stumble upon ancient idols in Nagapattinam

A sivalingam and a few other idols were unearthed near Thirumarugal in Nagapattinam district on Sunday.

Some farmers were herding their cattle on a vacant land in front of the Sri Kalakandeswarar temple at Thirumalampoigai village near Thirumarugal in Nagapattinam district on Sunday when they stumbled upon a sivalinga in a pit dug up for planting saplings.

The farmers dug up the pit and unearthed the four-inch lingam. When they searched the adjacent area, they discovered more idols . Ancient earthenware was also found.

They immediately intimated the Revenue authorities following which Nagapattinam Tahsildar Elangovan, Revenue Inspector Chandrakala and others rushed to the spot, took the idols to the Taluk Office for further inquiry.
