Farmers sensitised on crop insurance

About 480 farmers from four blocks of Vellore district took part in an awareness programme on the Central Government’s crop insurance scheme, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. It was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Virinjipuram at Parasvaramangalam village in Arakkonam block.

Simple technology

Addressing the farmers, K. Hari, Member of Parliament of Arakkonam, said the Government of India had introduced the crop insurance scheme with minimum premium and maximum insurance for farmers’ welfare.

The scheme covered multiple localised risks and post harvest losses.

It uses simple technology through phones and remote sensing for quick estimation and early settlement of claims, he said. S. Ravi, Arakkonam MLA and G. Ramakrishnan, joint director of Agriculture, Vellore, were present, a release said.
