Farm loans to the tune of Rs. 232 crores waived

A total of 46,634 farmers in the district have benefited after their loan of Rs. 232.14 crore was waived by the Chief Minister, said Dr. V. Saroja, Minister for Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme, here recently.

Certificate

A function to distribute loan waiver certificates to small and medium farmers, distribution of assistance to farmers was held here in which Collector M. Asian Mariam, P.R. Sundaram, MP, and MLAs K.P.P. Baskar and C. Chandrasekaran participated.

The Minister said that after assuming office, the Chief Minister signed for waiving farm loans to the tune of Rs. 5,780 crore, including Rs. 232.14 crore for Namakkal district.

Loan

She said that Rs. 230.76 crore was obtained as loan by farmers from primary agricultural cooperative banks, Rs. 1.38 crore from urban development banks.

“Waived loans had helped farmers in the district”, she added. The Minister listed the various welfare schemes for the women and said that assistance to the downtrodden has been increased only by the AIADMK government.

Welfare assistance to the tune of Rs. 2.23 crore was distributed to the beneficiaries on the occasion.

G. Mahatma, Tiruchengode Revenue Divisional Officer, N. Balachandran, Deputy Collector, Social Security Schemes, and other officials participated.
