Expectations high for early creation of Thalavadi Taluk

Revenue Department committee approves proposal

March 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - ERODE:

There is a huge expectation among residents of several tribal villages spread over Sathy hills that the State Government will not delay carving out Thalavadi Taluk from Sathyamangalam Taluk.

A High-Level-Committee of Revenue Department has already approved the proposal for formation of the new taluk as a special case. Norms prescribed for a taluk in terms of area, population and number of villages have been relaxed for Thalavadi, District Revenue Officer R. Satheesh said.

The need for people on the hills to travel to Sathy to get important certificates will be obviated if the new taluk is created. At present, the people living in remote habitations located 20 to 30 km away from Thalavadi have to travel an average to and fro distance of 150 km for getting birth, death, community and other important certificates.

Creation of a new taluk would pave way for upgrade of police station, establishment of headquarters hospital, and, most importantly, flow of funds for basic infrastructure development.

Likewise, Kadambur Panchayat is also poised for upgrade as Panchayat Union, paving way for significant progress in creation of basic infrastructure. At present, Kadambur Panchayat is part of Sathyamangalam Panchayat Union. Residents on Kadambur hills, however, wish to remain within the jurisdiction of Sathyamangalam Taluk.

As for Bargur Panchayat, no proposal has been made for its upgrade as Panchayat Union, official sources said. There has been a long-pending demand from people on the Bargur hills that the panchayat must be trifurcated and the hilly areas must be considered a special block for the purpose of socio-economic progress.
