Exhibition focuses on sustaining environment

Twenty-five stalls put up by Environment and Forests, and Horticulture Departments, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board and private entities in connection with the government-sponsored mega awareness programme here on Friday sought to provide a direction for sustaining environment through the concepts of reduce, reuse and recycle.

Pamphlets distributed

Volunteers of Olirum Erodu Foundation distributed pamphlets through a couple of stalls inviting the public for a collective initiative to safeguard environment and informing about a school-level competition involving attractive prizes for collecting and depositing e-wastes.

Under the aegis of Forest Department, the works undertaken for preserving flora and fauna in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve was highlighted. A stall by Kotagiri-based Keystone Foundation featured forest - sourced products manufactured by tribal communities.

Visitors learnt what the process of Zero Liquid Discharge to avoid wastes. A firm showcased how a bio-gas evaporator for producing methane gas from leather fleshing waste would help in achieving ZLD without any fuel cost
