EVMs and poll materials were carried by officials and villagers as headload to polling station at Periya Malaiyur on Natham hill here on Sunday to enable 1,065 voters, including 518 women, to cast their votes without any hassles.

With no road connectivity, and mules and donkeys, headload was the only way to transport materials to these remote villages. It was the only polling station for Chinnmalaiyur, Periyamalaiyur and Pallathukaduvalasu atop Karandhamalai. Similarly, EVMs were carried on headload to L. Malaiyur, another remote village on the hill at Lingavadi panchayat that had 446 voters, including 223 women. Two mobile parties, comprising 10 persons each, accompanied the officials for security.

Amid tight security, 182 poll materials, including EVMs, were dispatched to respective polling stations in the seven assembly constituencies in the district. A total of 201 zonal teams were engaged in transporting them to 2,039 polling stations.

VVPAT equipment was installed in 266 polling stations in Dindigul constituency.
