Ensuring safety in industries is a joint effort and it cannot be assured by individual workers, said C. Gnanasekara Babu Rao, Chairman, National Safety Council, Tamil Nadu Chapter and Director of Industrial Safety and Health, Government of Tamil Nadu.
Speaking at a training programme on Safety Management in Industries here recently, jointly organised by The Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health and National Safety Council, Salem Regional Sub Committee, he said that safety should not be a culture and it should be practiced. He said safety gears and self protection mechanism should be in place round-the-clock to prevent accident in industries. “Awards are given every year for workers and industries to encourage them to take adequate safety measures,” he added. P.K. Mishra, General Manager (Works), Steel Authority of India Limited, Salem Steel Plant and P. Elango, Managing Director, SSM Processing Mill Limited, Komarapalayam explained about the measures in place in their respective industries. S. Ponsingh Mohan Ram, Additional Director of Industrial Safety and Health, Salem and K. Arul, Joint Director of Industrial Safety and Health, Salem also spoke.
