Ensure protection of fishermen: Karunanidhi

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M. Karunanidhi on Friday called upon the Centre to act fast towards ensuring an end to the hardships faced by fishermen from Tamil Nadu at the hands of the Sri Lankan Navy.

In a statement, issued in the wake of the arrest of 49 fishermen from the State by the Sri Lankan Navy, the former Chief Minister said it was time the Centre acted sternly as certain actions of the neighbouring country also threatened the sovereignty of India.

“Writing letters not enough”

Referring to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue, Mr.Karunanidhi said shooting letters was not enough.
