Intruders tied them up and locked the front door before escaping

July 03, 2011 02:39 am | Updated 02:39 am IST - VILLUPURAM:

A three-member masked gang broke into the house of Jayachandran (61) at Andikuzhi near Ulundurpet in the early hours of Saturday, assaulted him and his wife Padmini (58) and decamped with 14 sovereigns of jewellery, which also included a ‘thali'.

Police sources said that when the intruders tried to snatch the ‘thali' from Ms. Padmini, she raised an alarm. Mr. Jayachandran, who came to her rescue, was assaulted.

The intruders tied up the couple, locked the front door and escaped with the booty.

On receiving information, police inspected the spot along with forensic experts and sniffer dog.
