EC has failed in bogus voters issue: Anbumani

April 21, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - DHARMAPURI:

Claiming that the Election Commission had failed to act on complaints about the alleged presence of 1.5 lakh bogus voters in Dharmapuri district, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Wednesday demanded that these voters must be weeded out from the electoral list before the polls.

Launching his campaign in Pennagaram from where he is contesting his maiden Assembly elections, Dr. Anbumani said, “We will not allow the conduct of elections here if the 1.5 lakh duplicate voters (double entries and bogus voters) in the district are not weeded out from the list.”

Later when this correspondent asked him to explain his statement, Dr. Anbumani said it was pointless to hold elections with such a huge number of bogus voters. “We will take it up at with the highest level [in the EC] in Delhi and hold protests across the district,” he said.

Earlier, Dr. Anbumani alleged that the District Election Officer (DEO) was acting in favour of the ruling party and failed to act on complaints about the presence of duplicate voters despite representation to eliminate their names.

He demanded that the DEO be replaced to ensure fair elections.
