The Madras High Court on Monday directed the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption to expedite enquiry and register a case if a cognisable offence is made out in a complaint relating to expenditure for the World Classical Tamil Conference during the DMK rule in June 2010.

Justice R.Mala passed the order on a petition by B.Ramesh Babu of Perambur, an advocate. The petitioner said the previous government held the conference. To a query, the Secretary, Tamil Development, had sent a reply stating that Rs.262 crore had been spent for the conference. The petitioner alleged that public money had been spent `lavishly.’ He sent a representation to the DVAC in February followed by a reminder in March this year.
