Drug peddler held; 1.15kg ganja seized in Rameswaram

Police have arrested a drug peddler and seized from him, 1.150 kg of ganja, meant for local sale.

Police said acting on a tip off, a police team, led by Amudhaselvi, Inspector of Police, Rameswaram Temple police station arrested the accused R Sakthivel (56) at Indira Nagar here on Thursday.

Police were shadowing him for about a week after receiving information that he was engaged in the illegal sale of ganja at Indira Nagar and arrested him after he returned from Pudukottai after purchasing the drug.

He was arrested under provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1988. He was produced before the local Magistrate court and remanded in judicial custody, police said.

Interrogation revealed that the drug peddler had procured the drug at Kottaipattinam in Pudukottai district.
