: Doctors at the Super Specialty Hospital, an upgraded institution of Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital, should prepare themselves and start performing kidney and liver transplantations as done in government hospitals in Chennai, said J. Amalorpavanathan, convener, Cadaver Transplant Programme of Government of Tamil Nadu.

Launching the donor action programme at the hospital here on Tuesday, he said that adequate facilities would be provided by the government to carry out organ donations in the hospital.

“But we need data on the number of brain dead and patients waiting to receive organs”, he added.

He said that identifying the brain dead, carrying out 12 tests twice to confirm it and certifying a patient as brain dead and harvesting for transplantation are challenges that need to be overcome.
