Donation to Cheshire Homes

Spanish organisations offer 6 lakh

JAL, a Spanish organisation has offered to donate a sum of Rs. 6 lakh to Cheshire Homes (India), Katpadi, Vellore.

Cheshire Homes Vellore is a branch of Cheshire Homes (India), a non-governmental organization (NGO), was founded by British Royal Air Force officer Lord Leonard Cheshire. The organisation was meant for the disabled. Cheshire Homes Vellore has been serving leprosy-cured persons.

Cheshire was an official British Observer of the dropping of the atom bomb on Nagasaki in Japan during the Second World War. He later founded the Cheshire Homes throughout the world to help the disabled, moved as he was by the plight of those rendered disabled during the war.

Montserrat Perez, president and Berta Baulenas, Vice-President of JAL Spain (one of the foreign donors of the NGO) who visited the Cheshire Homes Vellore recently agreed to donate Rs. 5 lakh to the NGO after scrutinising its accounts. On the request of Uma Natarajan, Honorary Secretary of Cheshire Homes Vellore, the donors agreed to enhance the donation to six lakh.

The JAL Spain representatives also visited the ladies and gents’ wards maintained by the trust, the dispensary run by the trust and other units maintained by it.

Sri Ramanuja Mission Trust, Chennai has donated a car to Udhavum Ullangal, a Vellore-based non-governmental organization to enable it to carry on its social service activities. A.C. Narasimhan, Adviser to the trust and the general secretary of the South Indian Purohits Association, Arcot handed over the car keys to Era. Chandrasekharan, president of Udhavum Ullangal here on Friday.
