Calling the opposition to the ‘Ram Rajya Rath Yatra’ as an attack on believers of Hinduism, BJP’s State president Tamilisai Soundararajan asked the Opposition party leaders, including DMK’s working president M.K. Stalin, not to play divisive politics in the name of religion.

Criticising the Opposition leaders for protesting against VHP’s ‘Ram Rajya Rath Yatra’ that entered the State on Tuesday, she said, “If you oppose the yatra, we will strongly oppose you.” She was in Vellore to address a meeting of BJP workers.

Addressing reporters, Ms. Soundararajan said “It is a ‘ramar ratham’ that is coming for those who believe. Let those who believe praise it. If you do not want it, boycott it. Instead, demanding that it should not be allowed into the State is like launching an attack on believers of the Hindu faith. How can you justify this?” .

She said that the ‘rath’ had passed through many States in a peaceful manner. She urged all the Opposition party leaders, including Mr. Stalin, not to play divisive politics in the name of religion again.

She added that they will “act strongly” if such incidents continued, without affecting the law and order or disturbing communal harmony.

Cauvery Board

Ms. Soundararajan said that the Supreme Court has given a time-frame to form the Cauvery Management Board, and the Union Minister for Water Resources Nitin Gadkari and Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal have said that steps towards this have been initiated. “Even the State’s Deputy Chief Minister has told the Assembly that there was time to form the board and should wait until then,” she said.

She also said that the Centre was bringing in many schemes for Tamil Nadu including expansion of Metro Rail, green expressway corridor between Salem and Chennai and a defence corridor.

The BJP leader said that the party was ready to face the local body elections in the State. “We want to be the alternative party in Tamil Nadu. In today’s situation, no other party other than BJP can be this change. We are growing as a strong party,” she said.
