Former Minister Anitha R. Radhakrishnan and S.P.J. Kamalakannan were on Tuesday named candidates of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for the Assembly constituencies of Tiruchendur and Vandavasi, which would face the by-polls next month.
DMK president and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi announced the names of the candidates after an interview at the party headquarters here.
Mr. Radhakrishnan, who was a Minister during 2002-2006 in the previous All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) regime, joined the DMK in August on his expulsion from the AIADMK. The former Minister, who was elected from Tiruchendur in the AIADMK party in 2006, had then quit the post of MLA.
Mr. Kamalakannan’s father, S.P. Jayaraman, died of cancer early this month. On his maiden attempt in the 2006 Assembly elections, Jayaraman won, defeating the AIADMK nominee.
