‘DMK did not protect students’ welfare’

May 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:29 am IST - Tirunelveli:

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday said in December 2010, the MCI had made the NEET mandatory. When the Supreme Court quashed it in July 2013, the then UPA Government filed a revision petition challenging it.

Addressing a meeting here, she said, “I, as Chief Minister, appealed to the then Prime Minister to withdraw the revision petition with the sole objective of safeguarding the welfare of the Tamil Nadu students. But the DMK, which shared power in the UPA, did not do anything to protect their interests as its only concern was to escape from 2G and Aircel Maxis scams,” the AIADMK leader alleged.

Though the Tamil Nadu government was not one of the respondents in this case, the State government presented its arguments in the apex court through senior counsel.

AIADMK cadre dies
